Welcome to the first Health News of 2010! Perhaps you've been working on some of the most typical New Year's resolutions -- things like losing weight or reducing stress.

To help kick off 2010, I'd like to suggest three resolutions of my own. One is intended to help you learn more about healthcare on a broad scale, while the second aims to keep you abreast of what's going on here at Corona Regional Medical Center. And the third? It's a common, easy way to help keep you healthy. Read on to learn more.

  • Keep the conversation going. It's probably no surprise to you that national healthcare reform is at the top of my mind these days -- after all, healthcare is our business! But it should be on your mind, too. No matter who you are, healthcare reform will affect you and your family. So, I urge you to stay informed, talk with your friends and neighbors about this important topic and keep tabs on what our elected officials are doing.
  • Watch our Web site. In the coming months, we'll provide links to information about healthcare reform on our Web site at www.coronaregional.com, which we keep fresh with hospital news. For instance, in 2009, we announced the completion of two major projects -- the Corona Regional Imaging Center and our newly expanded and remodeled Emergency Department -- on our Web site. We look forward to revealing even more exciting developments later this year.
  • Wash your hands. In this issue of Health News, you'll read about what we're doing to help prevent the spread of seasonal and 2009 H1N1 flu. Besides getting vaccinated, the most effective way to prevent the flu -- and many other contagious diseases -- is to wash your hands, frequently and thoroughly. Make hand washing a habit, and teach your kids, as well.

All the best for a healthy and prosperous 2010,
